You Are The FIC!
After last Tuesday, could it be any more obvious that the world is in crisis? When the unimaginable happens, how do you respond? My request to you: Don’t despair. Use this as an opportunity. Trump has brought into stark focus the problems that already existed. It doesn’t mean we haven’t made progress, but it does mean there’s much to do.
Yesterday I was fortunate to hear a keynote by Ed Whitfield,
co-founder of the Fund for Democratic Communities, and Board member for the Highlander Center, New Economy Coalition, and The Working World. He reminded us that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” This doesn’t mean you get to sit around and let the universe take care of things. You are part of the universe. Whether your efforts lead to what you might perceive as success or failure, it’s about getting up every day and doing what you believe to be right simply
because that’s the right thing to do.
You are, also, the communities movement. Your efforts to build community, in many different ways, whether or not the particular project you’re working on becomes what you want it to be, are part of the movement and your work is important. The Foundation for Intentional Community is your platform to support this work, and I want you to make the most of it. I also want you to help build it.
As the intentional communities movement has continued to grow and evolve, we’ve increased our efforts. The challenge has been to increase income to increase capacity, and this has led us into a financial crisis. We have become dangerously reliant on cash flow loans and credit cards.
We’re ready to take things to the next level. We don’t just want to make up our current shortfall and pay off debt, we want to provide you with even more programs and services to support your efforts to build community.
- Your donation helps develop the Communities Directory into a comprehensive, multi-functional platform for people looking for community, and communities looking for people, as well as a resource for media and researchers.
- Your donation helps Communities Magazine share stories of cooperative living.
- Your donation helps provide information, networking, and consultation to forming and developing communities across the continent and around the world.
- Your donation helps groups working towards cooperation, sustainability, and social justice have a greater impact all over the world.
What do you want for the world? What part do you have to play? Let’s do it together.
In community,
Sky Blue
Executive Director
