Course Description
Course will begin, August 6th through August 18.
Course will end with on August 18 NH Permaculture Gathering at
Cite Ecologique of New Hampshire Ecovillage (the course fee includes the registration to this event).
“The class will be a mix of theory discussion, design process and practice as well as hands-on workshops. Throughout the course we will be discussing social systems, economic systems and agricultural systems of different land components and climates: dry, humid cold, humid tropics, etc.”

- History, Principles & Patterns
- Zone & Sector Analysis with Base Mapping
- Forest Garden, Landforms & Natural Systems
- Technical Garden Tactics & Plant science
- Permaculture in business, Community, Restoration, Community, Economics & Politics
- Natural Building
- How to Design
Also, one field trip to Lost Nation Orchard
And one to D Acres of New Hampshire Permaculture Farm and Educational Homestead
Monday, August 6th: Breakfast served at 8:00 am
Class begins, 9:00 am will runs to 5:00 pm
Course will end, Saturday, August 18 5:00 pm.
For lodging: Teepees, small dorm cabins or camping options provided on-site. (Included in your course fees.)
The course will include fresh cook organic breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. *Please let us know your preferences and restrictions before the start of the course.

Regarding the teachers:
Sophie Viandier is a designer, consultant, gardener and teacher with Garden Life NH. She has designed both urban and rural sites with a focus on community revitalization both locally with PermaCityLife in Franklin, New Hampshire and internationally in Kenya, Haiti and France. She is a graduate of Gaia University with a Bachelor’s degree in Integrative Ecosocial Design. Sophie is a Natural Resource Steward for New Hampshire and a Community Ecology Trainee from the UNH Cooperative Extension. She owns and operates Pay It Forward Farm in Andover, New Hampshire where she spends as much time as possible playing in her gardens.
Sam Durfee earned a Permaculture Design Certificate in 2012 at Plymouth State University under the guidance of Steve Whitman in conjunction with a BS in Environmental Science & Policy. Sam works as a Regional Planner with the Central New Hampshire Regional Planning Commission and is involved with a wide variety of projects ranging for regional conservation plans to economic development efforts and hazard mitigation planning to the writing of master plans. Outside of the office, Sam chairs PermaCityLife, a Franklin, NH-based non-profit whose mission is to use the principles of permaculture to build a collaborative and resilient community through downtown revitalization, outdoor recreation and experiential education.
Liz Kelly is an ecological designer. Land use planners, and permaculture educator living in Holderness, NH. Professionally, Liz works with communities, organizations, and other entities to develop designs and plans grounded in community resilience, systems thinking, and land stewardship throughout NH. She currently serves as Land Use Planner for the Town of Bristol, NH, is a consultant for Resilience Planning & Design LLC. a small firm based in Plymouth, NH, and teaches sustainability curriculum at Plymouth State University. She is also a board member of the Permaculture Association of the Northeast (or PAN) that works to support the regional permaculture network.. In her teaching, Liz focuses on making permaculture accessible to all and communicating practical, yet creative, landscape analysis and design skills that empower and inspire students. In her free time, Liz is an avid rock climber, practices yoga, and loves to grow, cook, and prepare nutritious foods and herbs.
Dylan Carney spent his high school years working at Little Field Farm in Eaton New Hampshire. There he learned about Vegetable production and Livestock management. He got an associates degree in Integrated Agriculture Management at the University of New Hampshire. Dylan was the president of the Organic Garden Club for a year and has helped manage the 1-acre farm on campus. Dylan obtained his Permaculture Design Certificate at UNH with 17 other students who organized an on-campus class which was the first ever at UNH.
Sean Carney was born and raised in New Hampshire, but has spent the recent years in North Dakota, Seattle, and Dublin, Ireland doing a mix of farming, building, teaching and activist (ing). Sean earned his PDC in 2012, earned a Teacher Training Certificate in 2014 and has taught and studied various Permaculture subjects around the country ever since.Course description:
